Take 5 – Making Music, not just playing an instrument (part 2)

In my Take 5 post last week, I mentioned that I believe the greatest musicians of all time strive to make music, to create a “magical moment,” and to communicate a message. The great musicians of the world have arrived at the place where they no longer are thinking about the technical aspects of their instrument. Instead, they sing through their instruments. They get into “the zone” and enter that freeing realm of true music making.

All of us can learn a lot from listening to some of these incredible musicians from both the past and present. Both vocalists and instrumentalists that I have enjoyed listening to and learning from include people like Wynton Marsalis, Josh Groban, Joshua Bell, Yo-Yo Ma, James Galway, Andrea Bocelli, and even pop stars like Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and even Kansas City’s own David Cook!

There is an incredible amount of recorded music and artists available to us, today that we really need to take advantage of listening and learning from these great artists.
